Match Reports 2005 Season.
Saturday 21st May v Buckminster.
Despite the weather in Leicester when we got to Buckminster's lovely ground it was dry. Zaheer won the toss and batted in this 40 overs per side game. Z 60 and John M 76no put on 104 in 20 overs for the first wicket. Jay 7 stumped, Stu 2 were the only other wickets to fall. Philip hit a swift 23no as LTCC totalled 202 for 3.
Sadly the rain came after 5 overs but Chris claimed 1 wicket in his 2nd over. 2 difficult chances were missed off Tony. Buckminster were 10 for 1 when the game was abandoned. Good tea, nice new fixture.
Sunday 15th May v Hinckley Am's Home.
Glorious warm spring day and Hinckley batted 1st in this 45/40 over game. Mean spells by Tony and later Stu 2 wickets, Mike B 4 wickets prevented Hinckley reaching the score they should have reached on this batting wicket. Andy bowled with good pace as did Simon Reeds. John Newbery in his 2nd bowl since 1975 took a very sharp C&B. Magnificent catches by John M (2)one diving to his left. George, Andy P, Steve, and Dan(2) took catches. Hinckley 136 for 7 off 45 overs.
Steve 84no and Ollie 5 opened the innings. Poor opening stand (as we have become used to 100+ starts)of 21 as Ollie was caught low in the slips. George followed shortly afterwards. Head up, stumped for 4. Dan Cross followed up a good performance behind the sticks, with a good knock of 27, as LTCC neared victory. Both he and Steve playing with control and a fine range of shots. John M 11 join Steve to see off the last 20 runs for a good win with 10 overs to spare. Once again we batted, bowled and fielded well. Good skippering By John.

Saturday 14th May v Ashby Hastings.
Long time since we last played this team. Ashby elected to bat first in this 42/38 over game.
Tight bowling by Tony 11-6-19-3, supported by excellent fielding with well judged catches by Chris V and Owen kept Ashby on the back foot. Philip bowled down the hill but a little short and paid the price. Chris replace Phil sending down 9 overs 1 for 21 in another good spell, with Zaheer taking a good catch at silly mid off. Owen picked up a wicket, as George took a catch, but Owen couldn't find a good enough length. George had a tidy 5 over spell. James replace Chris and took 3 wickets for 17 in 6 overs. Zaheer cleaned up the tail, 2 overs 2 for 5.Rob Reeds taking a catch.
Ashby 145 all out in 41 overs.
Zaheer 92no (14 4s and 2 6s)and Richard L 44 (6 4s and 1 6)took LTCC to within 4 of victory when Richard gave a catch. Jay walked to the wicket at the non-strikers end. Z hit a 4. Jay walked back.
Another great opening partnership of 142 on a very good wicket.
LTCC 146 for 1 in 25.3 overs.
Team well skippered by Zaheer. Everyone performed well.

Sunday 8th May v Walton on the Wolds.
42/38 over game. LTCC batted first on another damp wicket Mike B 103no and Ollie 60 put on 156 for the first wicket. Congratulations on Ollie's first, well earned, 50 for LTCC. Stu joined Mike to score a quick 23no as LTCC declared on 200 for 1 after 40 overs.
Tony took a wicket in his first over, with Mick M taking the catch at the wicket. Stu claimed a catch at slip off Tony's bowling.
Chris V had another good spell of bowling taking 4 for 26 in 12 0vers. 3 bowled and a diving catch by Ollie.
Brian replaced Tony and took 1 for 14 from 6 overs.
John Newbery took over from Chris and had a tidy spell. His first bowl since 1979!
Dave Price 5 overs 1 for 7 as Ollie took another catch.
Mike B 3 overs 1 for 6 gave us a glimmer of victory as Walton slipped to 106 for 9, but the overs were running out. Stu 2 overs for 5 completed the bowling as Walton closed on 111 for 9. Match drawn.

Sat 7th May game cancelled. Too wet.

Sunday 1st May v Appleby Magna Away.
Time game, tea allegedly at 5pm!
Stew invited Appleby to bat 1st on a damp wicket. Andy Page 15-3-46-2 and Chris V 10-4-22-0 bowled very well as Appleby went along at a snails pace. From 85 for 2 in the 30th over Appleby were faced with the terror of Stew's 9-2-14-3 very good spell and Owen's superb return of 3.5-0-27-5. Congratulations on his first ever 5 wicket haul. This wrecked their chances of a reasonable total, as they closed on 135 all out off 46 overs. Dan Cross had a great afternoon behind the stumps taking 2 catches and 2 stumpings.
Catches also for Owen, Tony and Mike B.
Mike B 20 and George 16 got us off to a sound start at 41 off 11 overs when George was caught. Ollie was bowled for 2 by a shooter, Mike followed being bowled leaving the ball. John Newbery toiled for 11 over for 3 runs but at the other end Dan Cross was taking the game by the horns scoring 54 not out with some glorious shots. Jay played a valuable innings of 14 to take LTCC within 14 of victory. Andy P completed the game hitting a big 6 followed by a 4. LTCC home and dry 136 for 5 with 6 overs to spare. Good victory well done Stew.

Saturday 30th April v Gumley home.
Gumley elected to bat 1st in this 42/38 overs game. Chris opened the bowling and was very effective on the damp slow wicket picking up 2 well deserved wickets. Tony at the other end could not bowl with any consitency and got hammered. Zaheer took over and troubled the batsmen with pace and swing collecting 2 wickets and having a catch dropped. James bowled very well collecting 3 wickets as Gumley struggled. Mike B troubled all the batsmen with his spin. Mick M and Owen took 1 wicket and finished off the overs as Gumley closed on 132 for 7.
Richard L and Mike B got the team off to a very good start putting on 47 for the 1st wicket. Mike 32, playing some lovely drives and cuts. When he was out caught Richard took over hitting 2 sixes and making a good 48. Jay knocked a couple of runs before being caught. Zaheer perished for 13 trying to force the game. Loz 26 no, at the other end watched as Mick M was out for a single. Tony 5 no and Loz steadily ran down the total from 108 for 5 to 133 for 5 to reach victory with 6 overs to spare.
Lovely tea by Jay.

Sunday 24th April v Braunstone Home.
LTCC batted first in this 45/40 overs game.
Zaheer 145 no and Ollie 31 put on 112 for the first wicket in 18 overs. The rate dropped as Mick M lbw 8 and Dave B 1 ct were out. Philip played some superb shots and reached 21 no as LTCC totalled 216 for 3 dec off 42 overs.
Andy P 11.3-2-59-1 and Tony 11-1-36-1 opened the bowling. Mike B took a tumbling catch at square leg to remove Mark Bindley for 27 off Tony's bowling. Mike B 7-0-25-2 replaced Andy, who took a catch at cover to remove the other opener. At 81 for 3 in the 25th over LTCC looked to be in command but Braunstone didn't give up the chase. Loz 5-1-33-0 opened with a maiden. Mick M 3-0-27-0 tried his off-spin but the runs came thick and fast as their number 4 reached 54 no and number 5 72 before being bowled by Andy. Zaheer 5-0-26-0 joined Andy P to try and stem the flow of runs but Braunstone could scent victory. The faster we bowled the further they hit it. Braunstone reached 217 for 4 with 3 balls to spare. A very good game of cricket with good performances by both sides.

Sat 18th April v Houghton Home.
LTCC won.
Sun 19th April v Tav's Home. Match drawn. Match report v Taveners - 17/4/05 (42/38 overs)by Chris V.
Mick M won toss and elected to bat on a damp, drying pitch against the new ball in glorious warm sunshine! Steve G & Chris V opened for LTCC and after a slow start (8-0 off 8 overs) due to tight seam bowling began to find some tempo. Gilly passed 50 with the score on 107 and at 112-0 (27 overs) Chris was bowled for 47. Stew joined Gilly and for 5/6 overs the scoring was becalmed until Stew lashed out with a series of fine boundaries. Giily fell for 71 with Rich L perishing quickly. Ollie C 5 no and Stu took the score to 183-3 after 42 overs with Stu closing at 30+ No.

From tea the weather was transformed. LTCC took to the field in icy, dark, drizzly conditions. Tavs batted slowly to reach 50 without loss until Bully struck bowling the opener. Wickets then fell regulary with catches for Chris and Gilly as scoring became more pedestrian and the weather got worse. Bully ended up with a "4 fer" incuding a stonking c&b with Mick M bowling a lovely seamers line picking up a wicket with a yorker. Stu chipped in and at 7 down for 80 odd with 10 overs left LTCC were well placed. Two sharp c&b's were put down though and Tavs closed out at 108-7 for a draw in freezing conditions. Good effort though with plenty of youngsters involved.
