2005 Ashes Tour. Flat tyre at Broadway but the AA sorted it. Shurdington 40 overs game. LTCC batted first. Zaheer 115 and Steve 73 gave a solid and rapid score after 30 overs. George 17, Dan first over the tours many golden ducks, Chris P 20, Mick 3no and Chris V 3no gave LTCC a tea time score of 217 for 5. Tony and Rich opened the bowling and took 2 wickets each. Stew and Zaheer 1 wicket each. Chris V and Mick M didn’t manage to take a wicket. Shurdington kept up the run chase but fell 17 runs short of the target. Catches for George and Chris P. Down Hatherley 40 overs game. Needless to say, LTCC batted first. Usual 9 slips and wicketkeeper for the first ball which Ollie hit for 4 through the covers. He took 14 off the first over with 2 more 4s and a 2. Dibbly dobbly bowler got him in the 2nd over. Shok hit a good 83, Mike B a stylish 65, Chris V a valuable 29, Zaheer 8, George 3, Steve 0, Dan 5no and Rich 3no. LTCC 228 for 7. Rich had a hostile spell taking 2 for 16, Tony 1 for 40, Mick M 0 for 41, Zaheer 1 for 6, Mike B 3 for 26 really pegged the scoring, George 1 for 24, Steve 0 for 15. DH ended up on 168 for 8. Three catches for Mike B and 1 for Zaheer. Woodpeckers another 40 overs game. LTCC had first knock George an excellent 91 and Stew 0 golden duck, Dan 51, Steve 18, Zaheer 0 golden duck, Rich 2, Andy P 0 golden duck, Mick M 45, Ollie 13no and Chris P 4no as LTCC closed on 250 for 8. Seldom does a team record 3 golden ducks and still reach 250. Again Rich had a lively 6 overs taking 1 for 15. Tony picked up the first of his 6 wickets with his first ball bowling the left handed opener as the ball turned sharply. Lack of application and good line and length gave Tony the flattering figures of 8 overs 6 for 23. Stew weighed in with 3 for 11 for 6 overs. Dan 1 for 4, Andy P 0 for 19. Catches for George, Stew and Zaheer. Woodies 88 for 11, yes, they batted 12. Unison 40 overs game. LTCC batted first making a steady start. Zaheer 51, Steve 6, Mike B 36, Stew 0 another golden, Shok 24, Chris V 2, Rich H 50 off 20 balls, Chris P 37no and Andy P 9no gave LTCC 228 for 7. Ollie (Judas) opened for Unison hitting 23 cost us the game. Rich 2 for 34 off 8 overs, Stew 1 for 27 off 8 overs, Chris V 0 for 30 in 5 overs, Zaheer 1 for 24 from 4 overs, Mike B 0 for 32 off 3 overs, Andy P 5 overs 0 for 18. The pick of the bowlers was Dan with 3 for 35 from 8 overs. The game was tight all the way through with Mark House scoring 80 the mainstay of the UNISON innings. 3 wanted off the last over and they managed it off the last but one ball. Catches for Mike B, Zaheer, Stew and Dan. An exciting game. Westbury time game and another exciting match. LTCC reaching 202 for 8. Steve 38, Andy P 40, Mick M 20, Dan 5, George 0, Ollie 3, Tony 7, John M 28, Shok 32no and Stew 2no. Bowling Rich 5.5 overs 0 for 39, Stew 15 overs 4 for 73, Tony 11 overs 3 for 55, Mick M 5 overs 1 for 31. Tony dropped Matt first ball who went on to score 14 runs. Ollie took a blinding one handed catch off his boot straps at long on, John took a superb diving low catch in the gully, these were the 2 best catches of the tour. Rich h 2 catches, Steve 1 catch, and John one more for good measure. Despite our best endeavours Westbury got home with 1 ball to spare. Excellent night, once again in the Westbury clubhouse. Frampton on the village green this year. 40 overs game. Chris P not fit so LTCC down to 10 men. Frampton kindly gave us young Sam Birch who had a blinding game, 37 invaluable runs a run out and a super catch. LTCC reached 193 for 8. Steve 9, John 16, George 0 golden duck, Dan 0, Chris V 34, Ollie 16, Rich 50, Sam 37no, Andy P 0, Tony 6no. Andy P had a bit of a nightmare during his first 3 overs but came back well at the death, 7 overs 2 for 42, Tony bowled his 8 overs 3 for 24 including both Ian and Bob Murray, Stew 8 overs 2 for 22, Rich 7.1 overs 1 for 34, George 8 overs 1 for 29. Catches for Stew, Ollie, John 2, Andy P 3, Chris V and Sam as Frampton were all out for 163. Man of the Tour Steve Gill, Batsman Rich Heygate, Bowler Tony Crompton, Fielder Dan Cross. Best judging night John and Steve at Westbury on Severn.
