Good team performance and well captained by Z’ed. Saturday 2nd September 2006. Wigston St James. Home 38 0vers per side game. Despite the weather’s best effort we started on time. Wigston elected to bat first. A howling gale ragging across the ground from South to North. Brian on his 60th Birthday took the first over with the wind behind him and opened with a maiden. 6 overs 0for 25 was a good performance the ball went in the air but fell wide or short of the fielders. Stew drew the short straw and bowled into the teeth of the gale bowling 6 overs 0 for 25. Clem replaced Brian and went for 10 in his first over before settling to his normal good line and length. 6 overs 0 for 18. Tony took over into the wind and started with a wicket maiden. The magnificent tea, prepared by Bernadette to celebrate Brian’s birthday, was appreciated by everyone. Lots of players their wives and children joined in the celebration. Brian was presented with a cricket shirt with the lettering “El Presidente 60”, a signed bat by all the people present, books, cards and a mini set of stumps recording his 1st 50 when aged 50 and his 1st 5 wicket haul when just short of 60. LTCC eventually went out to bat. Jay fell for 0, Rich L for 4. By now their was driving drizzle. Owen managed 5. John M 10. When up came Brian at no5. Rain covered glasses but no matter as he hit the ball over long off, extra cover drive for 4. He reached 10 before some old wretch from WSJ caught him. Andrew managed 2. Amos top scored with 13. Stew 7 before being run out. Tony 4. Dale 1no and Ian 5no. LTCC 92 all out. We all retired to the pavilion to continue the celebrations as Brian had kindly left the remains of his “lump sum” to pay for the nights drinking. Grand time was had by everyone. Thanks Brian.
